A fundraiser for the Osseo Senior High cross country program
Each September, the Osseo Lions Club sponsors Osseo Lions Roar Days...two fun-filled days of activities for community members of all ages. In 2011, the Osseo Senior High cross country program teamed up with the Lions Club to offer a fitness activity as part of the celebration. The goals were to promote a healthy lifestyle, increase interest in distance running in youth and raise funds to support the team.
The inaugural race brought about a dozen runners onto the streets of Osseo, but each year the number of participants has grown. In 2017, over 300 people of all ages and abilities completed the race, wth top finishers receiving medals and many participants receiving prizes. All pre-registered participants are guaranteed a t-shirt, race goodie bag and refreshments.
Thanks to the generous support of the Osseo Lions Club and several community sponsors, all proceeds from the event directly support the Osseo Senior High cross country program. Funds from previous years have been used to hire additional coaching staff, pay for bus transportation and provide warm-up jackets for the team.
The Osseo Senior High cross country program welcomes students in grades 7-12 of all abilities and experience levels. In addition to developing the physical fitness necessary to compete in races ranging from 1 mile to 3.1 miles, cross country runners also develop self-motivation and self-discipline. As a team, they form strong friendships and give back to the community through service projects and volunteer work. There is no fee to attend a cross country meet as a spectator and the team invites you to come cheer for the Orioles this fall!
